Trees You Need to See

This walk invites the community to learn more about local trees by taking a guided excursion through streets and a hidden gem of a path in the southern part of the Glebe (Wilton Crescent, to Broadway Avenue, to Holmwood and Woodlawn Avenues). View iconic trees and get to know native trees. On our route we will encounter basswood, silver maple, bitternut hickory, hemlock, red oak, burr oak, and rock elm.  Guide Owen Clarkin will share a wealth of knowledge about our urban forest.

Family friendly and wheelchair accessible. Rain or shine. Bring your tree lore about the area and your questions about tree species.

Hosted by the Glebe Community Association Environment Committee.

We will meet at the iconic Burr Oak literally on the sidewalk at Wilton Crescent and Oakland Avenue.  From there, we take a path westward along Brown's Inlet towards Ralph Street; then swing south to Broadway Avenue and west to Craig Street.  Going north to Holmwood Ave., we loop back eastward on Holmwood to Ralph and then south to Woodlawn Avenue.  We'll end at Woodlawn and Monk Street (across from the back entrance to Abbotsford House/the Glebe Centre). Along the way, we "visit" several tree species, massive trees, middle-aged ones, and new growth.
