Canada's National War Memorial, Confederation Sq.

From national monuments like The Response to local remembrances like Veterans Grove, our walk will introduce you to sixteen memorials that honour soldiers, sailors, air crew, nurses and even animals. Learn more about the people you think you know well and get to know the complete unknowns who deserve our recognition, while discovering the many monuments that hide in plain sight. These memorials cover a rich history, from our own time all the way back to before there was an Ottawa . . . or a Canada.

We will talk about the things we as a society choose to remember and how the things we remember change over time. We’ll also talk about the art and the artists who have created these monuments.

Veterans and the families of veterans are invited to bring stories of their experiences to share.

Trajet

We'll meet at the National War Memorial in Confededration Square. From there, we will walk generally south through Confederation Park, where there are a number of monuments, and then over to Cartier Square (the Drill Hall), east of City Hall.

Rob Collins and Larry Capstick are Volunteer Interpreters at the Canadian War Museum. Together, they have developed a comprehensive tour of military memorials in the downtown Ottawa area.
