Britannia Village: a walk through history

Britannia Village is a fascinating 200-year-old community, located just east of Britannia Beach right on the bank of the Ottawa River.  Its evolution from mill town to cottage community, resort, satelite community, and suburb illustrates much of the social history of the larger City of Ottawa.  Using several historical buildings and locations as focus, the walk will discuss the history of the area and how it connects to the social history of Ottawa as a whole.

We'll meet at the western end of Rowatt St, at the waterfront.  From there, we will walk the following route:

  • East to Bradford and then north on Bradford to Cassels.
  • West on Cassels to Britannia Yacht Club.
  • Head back east on Cassels to Britannia Rd
  • South on Britannia Rd to Howe St
  • West along the bike path to the Trolley Station

From there it is just a short way to the Kolbus Centre where the walk will end.
