The Rideau River and the Hog's Back Falls as a Third Space: In, on, and around the water.

This walk offers an exploration of the Hog's Back Falls and surrounding area and a visit to the nearby Hog's Back lockstation on the Rideau canal. We'll talk about the history and modern day use of the river and land around Mooney's Bay.

This walk is near fast moving water and also a deep canal lock. For their safety, children attending this walk must be closely supervised.

We'll meet at the Cafe in Hog's Back Park. From there, we'll walk across the bridge to view the water fall and the geology, and then go down the stairs and under the road for a view of Mooney's Bay. Finally, we'll go back under the road to the Hog's Back Lock Station on the Rideau canal. We will return to Hog's Back park by the same route once the walk is over.

Accessibility: The walk will follow the Multi-use trail from Hogs Back Park to the Hog's Back Lock Station and back. On the way back, you may take the option to cross the dam above the falls. Note that this route includes some uneven ground and a flight of concrete stairs, but it might be an interesting option for some of our group when returning to our starting point.

Important: We will be walking near fast moving water and deep canal locks. Closely supervise your children when attending this walk.
