Indigenous Walks: Elgin St to Major's Hill Park

Take a walk through downtown Ottawa with Kristine McCorkell, who will share her perspective of downtown Ottawa through the eyes of an indigenous woman.   Kristine will guide you through the downtown core from the perspective of an Indigenous woman, providing you with a new outlook on the city. She will focus on recounting/exploring historical and contemporary Indigenous issues through the Indigenous arts found downtown, as well as the role of the arts in the era of reconciliation..

We'll meet at the Human Rights Monument at the corner of Elgin and Lisgar Sts.   From there, we will walk north on Elgin St., past the Chateau Laurier and north on Mackenzie Ave., ending near Major's Hill Park.  

About the walk leader

Kristine McCorkell is a Kanienkehaka youth who will begin a Master's program in fall 2017, concentrating on Indigenous art as resistance.  She is knowledgeable about the social, political, and cultural issues from an Indigenous perspective and applies these to her environment.
