This walk is intended for newcomers to Canada from Ukraine. Come meet us at the National Gallery by the large Maman spider sculpture. We will visit the Notre Dame Cathedral, Major's Hill Park, the Rideau Canal area, Parliament Hill, Sparks Street, National War Memorial, and the Byward Market. This tour is in English.

Route

We'll meet near Maman the Spider at Canada's National Gallery (at the corner of St Patrick St. and Sussex Dr.). From there, we will cross over Sussex to the Notre Dame Cathedral, then walk up through Major's Hill Park and the Rideau Canal area, turning west along Wellington St to Parliament Hill. We'll go south to loop back on Sparks Street, cross Elgin to the National War Memorial, and finally to into the Byward Market, where the walk will end. We will stop to have a snack of either gelato or a Beavertail and have a chance to chat about the walk and Ottawa in general.


There are stairs on this route in a few places. However, if these will be difficult for anyone, we can take a different route that will avoid them.


Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Bring a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. You should also bring some money, as we like to stop for snacks along the way.

Annette Sousa is an experienced Tour Guide for Ukrainian newcomers and school groups. Originally from California, she has lived in the Ottawa area since 2012. Annette's background includes years of guest services, travel, special events and the entertainment industry.
