The Long Term Vision and Plan for Canada’s Parliamentary Precinct

Join us for a guided walk exploring how Canada’s Parliamentary Precinct is being restored and renewed for the future. Led by Public Services and Procurement Canada, in partnership with Parliament, this long term program is modernizing historic buildings while respecting their heritage and traditions. Starting at the Centennial Flame, we’ll circle Parliament Hill to highlight the projects shaping a more connected, secure, and accessible precinct—one that supports a modern Parliament and the public it serves.

Starting at the Centennial Flame, the walk follows a loop around Parliament Hill’s perimeter, passing the West, Centre, and East Block areas along established pathways before returning to the Centennial Flame.


Accessibility: The walk will follow a paved recreational path. The route includes some inclines. We will be fully outdoors; the route has limited seating options.

About the walk leader

Miriam has over 20 years of expertise in urban planning and public land development. She is a distinguished public sector executive recognized for leading high-impact projects that deliver innovative solutions to complex challenges. Adept at navigating both public and private sectors, Miriam excels in managing multifaceted initiatives—overseeing budgets, schedules, and cross-functional teams to successfully achieve strategic objectives. She currently serves as the Senior Director of Campus Planning at the Parliamentary Precinct Branch, where she is spearheading the comprehensive update to the 2006 Long Term Vision and Plan for the Parliamentary Precinct—an essential roadmap guiding the execution of the Precinct’s complex rehabilitation projects. Her global perspective, shaped by extensive experience across Canada and the United States, is complemented by a diverse career spanning municipal government, private sector roles, and leadership positions at the National Capital Commission. Miriam holds a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Queen’s University.


Jill Savage graduated with a Master’s of Science in Planning from the University of Guelph in 2005; she completed the Urban Design certificate course at Simon Fraser University. To date, Jill’s professional experience has spanned three provinces and has been focused within the public sector in current planning, policy development, urban design, transit-oriented development and, most recently, targeted public realm initiatives. Over the course of her career Jill has instructed several city-run planning courses, acted as Adjunct Professor for the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Queen’s University, participated in design charrettes and sat on a regional planning committee, a heritage planning committee, a downtown redevelopment initiative and various task forces. She currently works on the Campus Planning team within the Parliamentary Precinct Branch, at Public Services and Procurement Canada.
