Walk This Way meets Jane's Walk

On April 11 2026, Jane's Walk Ottawa-Gatineau held an event with the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa's Walk This Way program. Walk This Way is a recreational walking program focused on fitness and wellness for kids aged 6 to 16 who are under-served and have little access to opportunities for sports and fitness.

Seasoned walk leader Dennis Van Staalduinen led the group of approximately 100 kids and the Jane's Walk Ottawa-Gatineau team on an engaging, fun, and educational stroll around Kíwekí Point and Major’s Hill Park. With stops along the way describing Ottawa's storied history from the time of the Indigenous people through Bytown's lumber days, the kids were tasked with spotting various artefacts along the route and checking them off their teams' bingo cards.

The morning was enjoyed by all, and we hope to do more events with Walk This Way!

Special thanks to our entertaining walk leader Dennis Van Staalduinen, Tim Boisvert, area manager for the Ottawa Boys and Girls Club and manager of the Don McGahan clubhouse, and Gavin Lumsden, volunteer leader for the Walk This Way program. And an extra shout out to the National Gallery of Canada for allowing us to use their space as our meeting point, and especially to TD Park People who provided funding through a 2025 grant to Jane's Walk Ottawa-Gatineau to support activities in local Ottawa parks.
